In a magical place

“In January 2012 we started to look at doing something for my 40th birthday, which was the 3rd of June. My family consists of Lloyd, my partner, and two lovely boys Jack 14 and William 12. Back in 2012 I always had in mind that I wanted to go to Italy with the family and my mum and dad.

I had planned to go to the Gritti Palace in Venice, which I found out that was under renovation. I then started researching luxury hotels that I hoped would make my birthday very special for all the family. I came across Borgo Egnazia in a magazine and was instantly drawn to the pictures and the cuisine, especially that you could spend a day with the chef, which I thought my mum and I would love. We managed to get a booking for all six of us and that meant I would be at Borgo on my actual 40th.

When we arrived we had no idea about what to expect and when we saw our town house we were lost for words as it was so beautiful and spacious and we fell in love with our garden where we all gathered every lunchtime.

Unbeknown to me, Lloyd had been speaking to my dad and asked him for my hand in marriage. On one of our days in our garden in our town house Lloyd got down on one knee and proposed. It was a total shock but could not have been in a more magical place.

After our first time we started to make arrangements to come back the year after, at the same time with my mum and dad and their friends Sandra and Bob, who had popped in to see us during our first visit on my birthday and fell in love with the place as well. This time we all stayed in town houses and managed to experience even more of the hotel including the spa and beach, as we all love the ride of the golf buggy, especially the children!

Last year my mum and dad, alongside Sandra and Bob came again, as we had some other large family occasions, which meant we were unable to make it. We also spent some time in the summer looking at wedding venues in the UK but each one failed to capture our hearts.

After speaking to our families we started to float the idea of ‘what if we got married at Borgo’ and instantly our boys Jack and William said ‘Wow and Yes’! In January this year we started to make enquires and much to our pleasure you could fit us in on the 19th September 2015. We have decided to make our wedding very intimate as we are an extremely close family and they mean the world to us, which is why we have chosen our wedding at Borgo Egnazia as it a special place just like them.

We can’t wait now to see Borgo again in September, as this is now a special place in our hearts.
